In Which Grant Turns “Two Balls”

First thing Monday morning we had a birthday party for Grant. He turned 2. We had a few of his friends over and they played outside. He had a football cake and seemed to have a great day.

We were talking to Grant last week about how he was going to be 2. Around the same time Brian was teaching him about the number of strikes and balls in baseball. So when you ask Grant how old he is, he replies, “Two balls.”

Jackson went to the dentist this week. He was great. His teeth look good and he was more excited about his new toothbrush than the toy he got.

Yesterday we took the boys to see Wall-E. It was Grant’s first time in a movie theater. He enjoyed the first half of the movie and then seemed a little bored, but we managed to keep him quiet by feeding him popcorn. You can get that kid to do pretty much anything if food is involved.

On the way to dinner one night last week, we passed by Grant Avenue. “Some people live there,” Jackson said, “and some people don’t live there.” You can’t argue with that.

Today we were leaving church and Jackson walked outside a minute or so before I did. When I stepped outside Jackson was standing on the sidewalk with his pants around his ankles, peeing on the grass—where he learned to do that I don’t know.

We bought a new Swivel Sweeper last weekend because our old one broke. I was putting the new one together and Jackson came over to me and said, “That looks pretty tough, you might need my Dad to help you.”

In Which Hailey is Queen of Clean

Monday afternoon Brian started teaching his summer class at NMU. They don’t let Grad students teach Creative Writing during the fall and winter semesters, but they let 2 teach it in the summer; Brian is one of the lucky 2. He loves it. He has a few seniors and apparently they act differently than the freshman he’s taught in the past.

Wednesday morning I attended my first official board meeting of the MOMS Club. I am the secretary this year. I’m excited but having a few flashbacks to my student council days.J I forgot to mention that last week at the MOMS Club banquet I was awarded the Queen of Clean.

Grant had a fever for most of the week. I’m not sure what was wrong, but now he has a nasty cough. He doesn’t seem too sick until he coughs, and then it sounds awful. So he and I stayed home from church today and had a relaxing morning.

For the 4th, Jackson and I went with some of our friends to the parade. It was just down the road so we walked. Jackson loved every minute of it, especially the candy. Brian and Grant stayed home because Grant was still sick and we didn’t want to mess up his nap. Since we had no other plans for the evening, we decided to make some. We invited a bunch of families from the ward over for a bring-your-own-meat bbq. It was really fun. The kids set off smoke bombs and sparklers. Later that night, Brian and Jackson went to watch the fireworks. I stayed home so Grant could get some rest. They had a really good time but didn’t get home until almost midnight. It just doesn’t get dark until really late. Gotta love summer in the U.P.
